Seashore Cathedral (Rudee Walkway Murals)

Oceanfront

Seashore Cathedral (Rudee Walkway Murals) is a attraction in Oceanfront, Virginia Beach, best for public-art fans, a Rudee Inlet detour, a free photo stop off the main Boardwalk crowds.

Italian-born artist Giuseppe Percivati, known as Pepe Gaka, painted the support columns of the Rudee Walkway underpass with geometric, stained-glass-style patterns — 'the whole underpass,' in his words, made to feel 'made of stained glass, giving lightness and brightness to the atmosphere.' Each column carries its own vignette of Virginia Beach character, and the back wall pays direct tribute to Paul DiPasquale's King Neptune statue up the Boardwalk at 31st Street. The walkway itself is a functional shortcut, linking the Rudee Inlet marina to the 4th Street municipal lot at the quiet southern tip of the Boardwalk — a free, easy-to-miss detour for anyone parking near the inlet.
