Edgar Cayce's A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment)

North End

Edgar Cayce's A.R.E. (Association for Research and Enlightenment) is a attraction in North End, Virginia Beach, best for curious first-time visitors, a quiet break from the beach, meditation and reflection.

At 67th Street and Atlantic Avenue, a few blocks past the hotels of the Resort Strip, sits the world headquarters of the Association for Research and Enlightenment — the organization built around the readings of Edgar Cayce, the Virginia Beach psychic and 'sleeping prophet' who settled here in 1925 and became one of the city's most famous historical residents. The visitor center offers free daily lectures, films, and tours covering Cayce's life and the holistic-health, dream-interpretation, and ancient-mysteries material in the archive, alongside a genuinely extensive metaphysical library open to browsing. Outside, a meditation garden and stone labyrinth give the grounds a quiet, reflective feel that's unlike anything else on the beach side of town, and a bookstore and gift shop round out a visit. Open daily 10am-5pm.
