Virginia Beach Law Enforcement Memorial

Oceanfront

Virginia Beach Law Enforcement Memorial is a attraction in Oceanfront, Virginia Beach, best for honoring law enforcement, a quieter stretch of Boardwalk, history and public-art fans.

Dedicated June 23, 2012, and designed by Paul DiPasquale — the same sculptor behind King Neptune — this 19-foot bronze memorial at the end of 35th Street depicts three officer figures representing the Virginia Beach Police Department, the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office, and the state and federal agencies that also protect the city. Their interlocking hands, lit from beneath by soft blue light, symbolize mutual support, while their free hands extend outward toward the citizens they serve. A granite base carries the inscribed names of the 21 officers the department has lost in the line of duty since 1898, with individual plaques noting each officer's circumstances and month of death. The plaza was purpose-built for quiet reflection, and it sits at a noticeably calmer stretch of the Boardwalk than the crowds around Neptune's Park eight blocks south.
