Ocean Eddie's has served the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier since 1950, starting as a snack bar and growing into a full seafood restaurant now run by third-generation chef Baxter. The kitchen sources Lynnhaven River oysters, farm-raised soft shells, and Virginia beef, and signature items include the Biggie T breakfast sandwich with lump crab, a rotating Fish of the Day, and house-made Key Lime Pie. In 2026 the restaurant added a new rooftop patio overlooking the pier for raw oysters and drinks, and the bar pours craft rum from Three Crosses Distillery, run by the owners' cousins. Ocean Eddie's also donates its oyster shells to local habitat-restoration programs.

The world's oldest continuously running surfing competition returns for its 64th year, turning the south end of the Oceanfront — from the 1st Street Jetty up to 10th Street — into a week-long surf carnival. It's the anchor event of late summer at the beach and the best week of the year to watch serious surfing at the 1st Street break.
