Dave's motto is the whole method: wood, meat, fire — no electric or propane equipment anywhere in the building. Established in 2017 by an owner smoking for the community he has called home for over 40 years, the Laskin Road spot turns out pulled pork, brisket, pork spare ribs, beef short ribs, smoked wings, and turkey, with banana pudding to finish. Get there early: it closes at 6pm and sells what the pits produced that day.

The world's oldest continuously running surfing competition returns for its 64th year, turning the south end of the Oceanfront — from the 1st Street Jetty up to 10th Street — into a week-long surf carnival.
