Sandbridge Beach
Sandbridge Beach is a beach in Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, best for vacation-rental weeks, families wanting space, quieter beach days, access to Back Bay and False Cape.
Sandbridge is Virginia Beach's 'Outer Banks in miniature' — about five miles of residential Atlantic beach backed by vacation rentals and dunes, fifteen minutes and a world away from the Resort Strip. There are no hotels, no boardwalk, and no commercial strip on the sand: the draw is space, quiet, and a beach-house week rather than a resort weekend. Summer dog rules are the friendlier non-resort hours, and the southern end runs into Little Island Park and then Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, making Sandbridge the staging point for the whole wild southern corridor of the city.

Know Before You Go
- Best for: vacation-rental weeks, families wanting space, quieter beach days, access to Back Bay and False Cape
- Parking: Free street parking where posted, but it is scarce and fills fast on summer weekends — a genuine local constraint. The paid lots at Little Island Park (a few dollars per day) are the reliable fallback at the south end.
- Accessibility: Public access paths cross the dunes at intervals along Sandpiper Road; most are sand paths without ramps. Little Island Park at the south end offers beach wheelchairs first-come, first-served.
- Dogs: allowed — Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, dogs are allowed on the sand at Sandbridge only before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m., leashed or under voice control. Off-season, dogs are welcome anytime and may be off leash on the beach.
- Location: Sandpiper Road and Sandfiddler Road corridor, southern Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach, VA

Sandbridge Pig Pickin'
September 12, 2026 · annual
The Sandbridge Volunteer Rescue Squad's all-you-can-eat pig roast at Little Island Park has been the neighborhood's signature fundraiser for more than four decades, paying for the advanced life-saving equipment behind the squad's 1,000-plus annual emergency calls. Barbecue, beer and wine, live music, local art vendors, and a bounce house for kids fill the park for an afternoon, with free admission for children under 10. It's Sandbridge at its most neighborly -- a beach-community fundraiser rather than a tourist draw, held at the same park that anchors the south end of the beach.
Cherry Blossom Festival
March 26, 2027 – March 28, 2027 · annual
Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation's spring showcase fills Red Wing Park's cherry tree grove with live cultural performances, martial arts demonstrations, and hands-on crafts timed to peak bloom in late March. The 2026 edition added a first-ever Nighttime Hanami, lighting the blossoms after dark on opening evening before the daytime festival took over the weekend. Admission and parking are free, with an overflow grass field opening for weekend crowds -- a genuinely photogenic, low-key alternative to the Oceanfront festival circuit, along General Booth Boulevard.
